Commercial Security Camera Installation Cost: What Drives the Price

What affects commercial security camera installation cost: camera count, cabling, mounting, recording, retention, network upgrades and licensing.

Every business that plans a camera system asks the same question: what will security camera installation cost? There is no single price per camera, because the biggest cost drivers are the site itself and what you need the system to do. This guide explains what goes into a commercial camera quote so you can budget and compare proposals.

1. Number and type of cameras

Camera count is the obvious driver, but camera type matters too. Fixed dome and bullet cameras cost less than multi-sensor, PTZ or license plate cameras. Outdoor cameras need weatherproof housings and sometimes heaters, and low-light scenes need cameras with better sensors or added lighting.

2. Cabling distance and difficulty

Each IP camera needs a network cable, usually Cat6 carrying power and video over PoE. Long runs, high ceilings, exterior walls, parking lots and pole mounts all add labor. Runs beyond Ethernet distance limits may need fiber or a remote switch. Reusing existing cabling can lower cost if it tests well.

3. Mounting conditions

Ceiling height, lift rental, masonry or concrete walls and pole installations change labor time significantly. A site walk is the only way to price this accurately.

4. Recording and retention

Recorders or video management software are sized by camera count, resolution, frame rate and how many days of footage you need to keep. Longer retention or higher resolution means more storage, which is one of the most variable parts of a quote.

5. Network and power

Cameras should run on a segmented network with PoE switches sized for the load. If your current switches lack PoE budget or ports, new switching and UPS power add to the project, but they also make the system far more reliable and secure.

6. Licensing and remote access

Some platforms license per camera or per user, and cloud-managed systems may carry a subscription. Secure remote viewing should be configured with individual user accounts, not shared passwords.

How to get an accurate quote

  • List what you need to see: entrances, docks, parking, cash areas, stock rooms.
  • Decide how long footage must be kept.
  • Ask for an itemized quote that separates cameras, cabling, recording, network and labor.

Benex provides commercial security camera installation as a low voltage contractor, with cameras on a secure network and access control available in the same project. After a short site walk we deliver an itemized quote. Request a free quote and a specialist will respond within one business day.
